
The administration of business for Howe Printing Company is now being conducted by the fourth generation of the Howe Family.
Henry E. Howe, first generation, operated his printing equipment with a gasoline engine mounted on the outside of the building and a series of belts and pulleys to each machine provide power.
Lyman J. Howe returned home from World War I and the company began to grow until World War II erupted on December 7, 1941.
LJ's two sons, William (Bill) and LJ Jr. (Jack) enlisted in the navy and returned to Prairie du Chien in 1946 to become the third generation in the printing business. The production of a weekly newspaper and commercial printing expanded with post-war economic growth.
The fourth generation John, son of Jack, and Gary, son of Bill, have proven to be most energetic. Expansions including a twice-a-week newpaper and shopper and , in a separate building, a well-equipped commercial printing plant, providing an outstanding reputation for customer service and weekly area news coverage.
Howe Printing Company is the proud owner of The Courier Press newspaper located in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. We also own The Guttenberg Press in Guttenberg, Iowa and the North Iowa Times in Mc Gregor, Iowa.

Eliese B. "Dick" Howe, was the wife of Lyman J. "Ly" Howe. She was the Publisher from 1949 to 1985 of The Courier in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
